Is that the sound of Armageddon I hear?

Actually, Diamond doesn't talk about that kind of apocalyptic collapse, but more the "we're slowly destroying our environmental resources" kind. It's quite interesting, and he covers a range of societies that both succeeded and failed, including Easter Island, the Mayans, Norse on Greenland and Iceland, Japan, and Rwanda. All good stuff.

Overall, it was really interesting, and kind of raised the urgency for me on environmental issues. Not so much stuff like recycling but things like forest use, massive pollution from mining and bad ag practices, etc.

So I went and tried to find a freaking 2-drawer file cabinet made from recycled stuff, and it was nearly impossible. I found one for $1,600 but that seemed a bit much. Compared to trying to find vegan stuff it seems like enviro merchants just aren't there yet.
